In 1984, Karen Walker Ryan started Heartland Nannies as a nationwide nanny placement agency. As our services broadened, we changed our name to Heartland Caregivers. Today, our name – Heartland Estate Staffing – reflects the wide variety of professional private service staff we place with our clients.
Through the years, our name changed and our services expanded. But one thing has remained constant: Heart. After 25 successful years as CEO of Heartland, I made the difficult decision to retire. But this was made easier when Betsy Needles – a 12-year member of our team – expressed her desire to purchase the agency. Now at the helm, Betsy embodies the Heartland ethic and spirit. At Heartland, we have always operated on the basis of honesty, integrity, full-disclosure and Heart. Founded by former educator and writer, Karen Walker Ryan, in 1984 as a nanny agency, Heartland is now one of the oldest and largest national full-service domestic referral services in the United States. Karen retired in 2010 and passed the torch on to her long time, loyal assistant, Betsy Needles. With 15+ years of experience, Betsy embodies the Heartland ethic and spirit and has continued to help and advise families across the country on how to hire and retain long-term staff for their homes or estates.
